Well I am going to back track a bit before I get to the camping. We have been busy busy busy! It's been fun but we are all pooped out. :) I have many pictures to be uploaded very soon. Last week I finally did a photo shoot of Brody for his one year pictures, we used a pool that he got for his birthday for the first time but the big things were that we spent the day Thursday with my sisters and nieces at the children's museum and then went camping for Father's day weekend.
So Thursday was fun and busy day. I woke up Friday to a very sore throat. So Brody and I mellowed out on Friday. I had a meeting but other then that we stayed in. Don asked me Friday are you going to be able to go camping?? I awoke Saturday morning to a terrible cold medicine hangover!! :) Do you ever get those after have night time cold medicine I feel groggy the whole next day. So I woke up with a terrible head ache and still feeling like I was sleeping while I was walking around. However, I had a husband that was already planning his camping trip. So I told myself I am going to go and have fun. This is the one thing he wanted to do for Father's day. So while he was working outside I worked on packing Brody and I up, and planning the meals. It took forever to get packed and get moving. We didn't actually get to the campground until close to 5pm. So Don and I worked together to get camp set up. I knew we were going to need to eat soon because it was about that time for Brody it was probably around 6:30 at this point. Don starts taking out the camping supplies and he asks where is the silverware. Guess who was in charge of the food? ME? So you would think that would mean I would pack silverware!! Don looks at me and says I asked you if you packed silverware and you said YES. So not only did I forget to pack it but he even asked me while we were at home and I told him yes. BUT I didn't. So that night, luckily, we had plans for sandwiches, chips, and beans. Well not only did I forget the silverware but I didn't pack a can opener for the beans. So the beans were out. We heard there was a camp store so I decided to run to the store while Don fed Brody. The store was basically a souvenir shop. NO thought to putting anything in there that people might use if they forgot stuff for camping. :( Oh well. She gave me some flatten wooden spoons. At least now we could eat our yogurt. :) So I got back and we ate dinner. We had about a half hour or less by the fire when we heard thunder. I figured I better go to the bathroom because a storm was coming. It was sprinkling on the way back and as soon as I got in the tent, HARD RAIN, THUNDER, LIGHTENING. We bought Brody a little portable toddler bed that is a tent that goes inside our tent. We put him to bed, and he slept pretty well. Don and I played cards and we were probably sleeping before 10pm. At some point in the middle of the night our neighbors were up and talking LOUD, they talked ALL NIGHT long. Serioulsy they went to bed as the sun was coming up. In the morning we decided we would still try and make pancakes & get creative with silverware. Don went to get stuff together and looks at me... Did you bring a spatula? I don't even think he should have asked me at this point. I did not bring a spatula. I brought the food, napkins, plates but nothing that had to do with utensils. WOW!! So we had brought hot dogs for lunch. We found some sticks and cooked them over the fire. Don got the bright idea that we should move them onto the grates because they would cook better. This was after we had all had one each. So as the hot dogs are cooking on the grate he looks at me and says oh no, we might not want to eat those. WHAT? WHY? He proceeds to inform me that while camping "people" put fires out by peeing on them!! PEOPLE??? Let's consider this for a moment.. NO NOT PEOPLE..BOYS,MEN not people! Gross. So he said that the grate has probably been peed on a bunch of times and we probably don't want to eat off of it. Gross. Boys are Gross! We did not have any more hotdogs. Luckily I made banana bread and we were able to eat that. DON PACKED A KNIFE!! So we packed up our campsite and headed to the beach. It was too cool to swim but we sat outside and enjoyed the sun. Then we headed home. All I can say is I am glad to be home. Camping can be fun but it ALWAYS rains when I go camping. ALWAYS! Also it's a lot of work to pack everything up and then clean everything when you get home. I think that camping should be done for at least two nights for all the work that goes into it. Needless to say Brody was sleeping at 7pm last night. Don and I were both sleeping by 10pm. Lots of fun, lots of tiredness. Good to be home.

Oh no. I am so sorry it rained on you. But those type of trips are always the ones that make the best stories.
I love your story! Just love it. Now when you were little camping with me it did not always rain on you.
Yes, a lot of work goes into camping and most of it falls on the woman. You know, the meals, the cleaning, the domestic stuff, but still I like going camping, and you are right, at least for two nights, and three days for all that work!
Still you will remember this one forever, one because it is Brody's first, and because of the "Mommy Moments", most of us have gone camping just like that. I love you. Mom
your story sounds like us going camping...we have 'graduated' to a caravan in more recent years and even though it is lovely to be more 'protected' from the environs, it's still SO much work I think I actually hate going...
The last time we went, back in March, I actually had fun and was getting into it...great...then we got hit by a cyclone and our sites were destroyed!!! disaster, it will be a whie before I oblige my husband and go 'camping' again :)
btw I think you did really well getting Brody to sleep...bravo :):)
Sorry you all had some misfortunes! Yes, I would forget those things...too. But, it sounds like you had fun despite the forgottens. Maybe they peed on it, maybe not, but I am sure it got cooked off...I think Don was trying to gross you out! ~LOL
Camping with tots is a lot of work, but it sounds like Brody was an A+ camper!
