Frugality Forgotten......

Not quite but almost. Every week it seems I just get my Frugal Friday post just barely before the clock strikes midnight. I have been thinking lately about buying in bulk and this is what I want to talk about this week.

I used to think that to buy in bulk you had to be married in a large family. However there are many things to buy in bulk that are non-perishable and that you use regularly that will save you money. Ok... but the obvious toilet paper, pads or tampons (sorry but I had to say it), soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, etc. You get the idea.

We have a Costco membership and recently I had a crazy experience with a coupon. I use Cetaphil face cleanser. I needed a moisturizer because mine had run out. Shortly after I received a Costco coupon for Cetaphil cleanser and moisturizer. You were allowed to use the coupon more then once. So off to Costco with my list in hand. I figured it would probably be $16.00 for a pack or more depending how many bottles were in a pack. So I get to Costco. There are two bottles in a pack of Cetaphil Cleanser and Moisturizer. They were about $9.00 each. ( 2 in a pack). Cetaphil costs $10.00 a bottle at Target. I was really surprised. My coupon was $4.50 off. Did you catch that. So basically I paid $10.00 for all four bottles, at Target this would have cost me $40.00!! So you get my drift ladies that you can save money on many things other then food for your family or diapers for babes. Also look through the coupons. I also bought a HUGE container of coffee that might last us like A YEAR, but I put it in the freezer and I paid $5.00 for it. I think you're getting my point. My savings at Costco were significant enough for it to have it's own Friday blog. So the moral of this story buy in bulk and use the coupons on top of it! Wahoo... we love to save money.

Your Frugal Friend.

Yes I do this too with my Sam's membership. I buy all the cleaning supplies, toiletries, and food we eat a lot of or will last awhile like canned goods. I also bought our formula there. They couldn't outprice Amazon on my diapers but I did get wipes there too. And gas, DVD's, baby clothes, etc.

I think we need costco here, or more coupons at least!!

I did the two weeks of menu planning and am actually into my third week without having to go and do a large grocery shop. I'm just really using what we have and being creative.
We have gone back to the store but only for fresh fruit, milk and an occasional missing item. Given that I hadn't actually planned this third week we are doing really great!!
and I'm making a real effort to bake at home, sometimes the days get away and I run out of time but these last few weeks I have made a real effort and everyone loves it. Muffins, cakes, cookies...all the good stuff!
I can't buy a lot in bulk, storage space is a real issue for me but I'm getting there and even if I'm not saving a lot of money(which I think I am actually) my husband appreciates my efforts and that's a good thing :)

Yeah Susan. I am so glad. I actually don't have a lot of storage space either. I move things around a lot and smoosh stuff together. :) And I use every knook and cranny possible, under beds and stuff like that.

I am so proud of you, now get stocked up on dried goods such as beans and rice.
